Introduction to The Dalriada Project The territory of Dalriada roughly corresponds to the area of mainland Scotland settled by eponymous migratory tribes from the Antrim coast around 500AD; with Dunadd the stronghold of the nation’s earliest kings until about 900AD. The Mid Argyll landscape of today encompasses Kilmartin Glen – a uniquely rich legacy of natural and built heritage from Atlantic oakwoods and mires of international importance, to the visible remains of thousands of years of human occupation. Kilmartin Glen is regarded as a heritage area of world status for its outstanding prehistoric and early historic archaeology. The forests and intricate coastlines of Knapdale contain outstanding scenery, unusual landscape features, rare wildlife habitats and hundreds of ancient monuments. The Crinan Canal is a treasured symbol of industrial advancement, and remains a working transport monument to this day. The Dalriada Project is committed to maximising and realising the community development potential of existing natural and cultural heritage assets for the long-term benefit of residents and visitors.
