The Dalriada Project

Has helped to protect and enhance the cultural and natural heritage and promote access and enjoyment of this incredibly beautiful and valuable area of Scotland since 2006. The project has now finished but its legacy will be continued by our partners.

The Dalriada Area

The Dalriada area is an outstanding landscape of international renown. It is the ancient birthplace of the Scottish nation, centred on Dunadd, crowning place of its kings.

Here you can see the visible remains of thousands of years of human occupation; we have one of the densest concentrations of archaeological monuments of anywhere in Scotland and the highest concentration of prehistoric rock art in Europe!   There is also a diverse natural history of wildlife habitats and unique landscapes including Atlantic woodlands, stunningly beautiful coastlines, mires and hills.

Dalriada also contains a living monument to our industrial heritage, the Crinan Canal, which continues to work its way through the landscape.
